Horace Calloway

Commander In Chief Character

name=Horace Calloway
position=First Son
party=Democrat
portrayer=Matt Lanter|

Horace Calloway is a fictional character in the ABC political drama Commander in Chief. He is the oldest of President Mackenzie Allen and First Gentleman Rod Calloway's three children, a mere four minutes older than his sister, Rebecca Calloway. He attends public high school in Washington, DC, where he is on the swim team. He was caught plagiarizing an English essay, and attempted to use his mother's position as leverage to avoid punishment. Aside from his academic difficulties, he is less rebellious than his twin sister, and also fiercely protective of her when it comes to her relationships with other boys. He is uninterested in politics, but generally agrees with his parents' independent politics, in sharp contrast to his twin sister's conservative ideologies.

He is portrayed by Matt Lanter.

His name may be a reference to Quintus Horatius Flaccus who is known as Horace in the English-speaking world. Horace was a lyric poet during the reign of Augustus in Rome. "Horace was the son of a freedman, but he himself was born free." Citation: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace] In Commander in Chief, Horace's mother is the President of the United States of America. The President is often referred to as the leader of the free world. Citation: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leader_of_the_Free_World] Horace was born free from his mother that, ironically, "leads" the free world.

Reference was made to Horace's Democratic views in the opening episode in a conflict with his sister

His mother President Mackenzie Allen is a Republican turned Independent
