Government House located in Cape Town was the official residence of the Governor of the Cape Province, South Africa.
Tuynhuys was built in 1682 by the Dutch East India Company. The building was later remodelled for use as Government House. Governor Lord Charles Somerset’s intent was that the house be suitable for the representative of the Monarchy. Tuynhuys is now the office of the President of South Africa and is closed to the public.
