Darling Heights State School is a state school located in Darling Heights, Queensland, Australia and opened in 1980. It fronts Wuth Street, a block or so northwest of the USQ campus. The current school principal is Mark Creedon and the Deputy principal is Allan Bagley.
Introduction
The school has a total enrollment of approxiamately 600, including a Special Education Unit and a Preschool. It is well known for a special program in year 6 and 7 where students are allowed to choose some of their subjects but maths, English and LOTE are still compulsory. Another difference for students in grade 6&7 is that they are put in one five or six groups for literacy and numeracy so they are with children of a similar standard.
Sport
Toowoomba has many sports for kids. DHSS has many sporting events throughout the year. In the first term they have cross country for years 4-7. Year 4&5 run 1 kilometre and the children in year 6&7 run 2 kilometres. In term two is a swimming carnival where children go to a pool to compete in all four strokes. In term three is athletics day where student compete in different events such as 100m, 200m, 800m, discus, shotput, longjump and high jump. If any student gets third (fifth in cross country) or higher they go to central zone to compete against students from other schools.
