Edward Francis (Ed) Lynch (born February 25, by|1956 in city-state|Brooklyn|New York) is a former Major League Baseball starting pitcher. He pitched and batted right handed, and his pitch selection included a fastball, slider, changeup and slurve. As a Player

Lynch was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the by|1977 amateur draft. On September 18, by|1979, the Rangers sent him to the New York Mets to complete an August 12 deal in which the Mets sent Willie Montanez to the Rangers for two players to be named later. The other player included in this deal by the Rangers was first baseman Mike Jorgensen.

Lynch debuted with the Mets at the tail end of the by|1980 season, and was 1-1 in four starts. He remained a staple of their starting rotation until the young pitchers on the by|1986 World Champion squad squeezed him out. After only 1.2 innings in relief, the Mets traded him to their division raval Chicago Cubs for Dave Liddell and Dave Lenderman. He remained with the Cubs through by|1987 before retiring. In an eight-season career, Lynch posted a 47-54 record with 396 strikeouts and a 4.00 ERA in 940.1 innings pitched.

As an Executive

After his career ended, he attended the University of Miami School of Law, and graduated in by|1991. Using his law degree and prior baseball experience he was able to land management positions with the San Diego Padres and Cubs, where he eventually became General Manager. Lynch was a popular person at UM, and was known to let other students try on his 1986 World Series ring, which he proudly wore every day. Ed currently resides in Phoenix where he works as a scout for the Chicago Cubs. He brings his little yellow notepad with him to all 81 Arizona Diamondbacks home games.
