LLK raises funds to complete the construction of buildings at the Virginia M. Buena Memorial Center for the Needy in Nakuru, Kenya. They have provided the funding for the construction of a solidly built orphanage for over 140 orphans, mainly AIDS orphans. The second construction, common house , is scheduled to be completed by April 2006. This building is also a solidly built stone structure with a large kitchen, dining hall, library, play and study hall (which will also be used for religious instruction and services), vocational training such as carpentry, tailoring, and secretarial, and workshop classrooms. The next phase of construction will be an elementary school from kindergarten to 8th grade. This building will have 15 classrooms including 3 Special Education classrooms. The school construction will begin in April 2006.
LLK has a German-based medical/dental partner organization "Arzt- und Zahnarzthilfe Kenya" , that provides for all medical and dental care – including quarterly check-ups and vaccinations.
The organisation pays the wages for the teachers, orphanage housemother, and cooks. Their feeding program is a huge success - especially during this time of extreme draught in Kenya (February 2006). With their "Clean Your Plate" project they are able to assure nutritious warm lunches for the nearly 600 children every school day and 3 nutritious meals for the orphans living in our orphanage every day. All funds are donations.
100% of the donations are transferred directly to Kenya to care for the children, provide education, medicine, food, shelter and the construction of the buildings at the Virginia M. Buena Center for the Needy. All fund-raisers are volunteers.
The purpose of the organization is the support and assistance to the children and young people in the LDK program at the Virginia M. Buena Memorial Center in Nakuru, Kenya. Through fundraising events and sponsorships LLK provides 100% of the intake to Learning and Development Kenya (LDK) in Nakuru, Kenya which uses the funds for the sole purpose of providing the needy children and youths in the LDK program with free welfare services, in particular for their educational necessities, the construction of an orphanage, kindergarten, elementary school, vocational training centers, training workshops, medical/dental care and a future hospital and a clinic for the terminally ill AIDS victims, library, clothing and a feeding program. The highest priority is providing the basis for dignity and self esteem.
