2006 Micronesian Games

The 2006 Micronesian Games were held at Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands from 2006-06-23 to 2006-07-07.

The Games were cancelled by Benigno R. Fitial, Governor of the Northern Marianas, in early February 2006 due to a financial crisis and a lack of planning, but reinstated after pleas from athletes, coaches and parents, and creation of a financial plan.

Guam won the most gold medals, with 51 gold, 27 silver and 18 bronze medals. CNMI came second, with 34 gold, 33 silver and 31 bronze medals, and Palau came third, with 27, 16 and 21 gold, silver and bronze medals. Other competitors were Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Kosrae, and Yap.
