Charles David is an American designer of luxury leather goods and shoes. The family-owned company began U.S. distribution of European shoes in 1987. Its first retail store opened on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, CA in 1988. In 2005, it had 25 retail stores across the U.S in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. It also sells handbags and shoes in department and specialty stores nationwide, such as Nordstrom, Macy's, and Bloomingdale's.
In spring 2004, Charles David launched their junior lines, Charles by Charles David, and Exchange by Charles David. Charles by Charles David comprises cheap modern clothes. Exchange by Charles David is a younger line from the signature line.
Charles David shoes have been worn by stars such as Debra Messing, Eva Longoria, Jessica Simpson, and Halle Berry.
