Daniel Thornburg Griffin (25 March 1911 – 7 December 1941) was an American sailor who died defending the Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay during the 7 December 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.Griffin was born in Allendale, Illinois. On 6 October 1930 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served continuously until his death during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. Aviation Machinist's Mate First Class Griffin was cited by Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet, for his prompt and efficient action and his utter disregard of personal danger in the defense of Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay.
Namesake
In 1943, the destroyer escort USS Daniel T. Griffin (DE-54) was named in his honor.
