"Palais Kinsky" is a
baroque palace inVienna . It was originally built forWirich Philipp Graf Daun , the garrison commander whose sonLeopold Josef Graf Daun became a field marshall of empressMaria Theresia . It was later bought by theKinsky family, is therefore sometimes known as "Palais Daun-Kinsky".It was commissioned by Count Daun and construction started in
1717 under the architectJohann Lucas von Hildebrandt . Shortly afterwards it was sold in1784 to the Kinsky family. The palace is famous for its beautiful yellow-whitefaçade , and the richly-decoratedstaircase withfresco ed ceilings,mirror s andstatue s.The palace underwent renovation in the late
1990 ’s and was restored to its former state. The rooms have baroquefresco ed ceilings and expensiveparquet floors. The palace is used forauction events, houses shops and arestaurant .
