- Palais Erdödy
The Palais Erdödy, also called the Palais Esterházy, was a
palace inVienna 1. It was commissioned byPrince Nikolaus Esterházy in1802 to be designed and built byKarl von Moreau .The palace was three stories high and built in the Empire style. The entrance was an enormous
arch way with acoffered ceiling . From there, astaircase decorated withCorinthian column s led to an elegantballroom withmirror ed double-doors, walls clad in white, artificialmarble ,gild ed capitals,fresco es, and a richly decoratedparquet [pg. 123, Dieter Klein, Martin Kupf, Robert Schediwy (Ed.) It was considered one of the best examples of nineteenth-century architecture.The palace was subsequently sold by the Esterházy family to the
Erdödy family, under whom the palace was renamed. It was slightly damaged duringWorld War II .
