Jatibonicu is a name in the
Taino Arawakan Native American language of the Lesser and Major Antilles of Caribbean islands. The term Jatibonicu [http://www.taino-tribe.org/jatibod.htm] literally means "Great People of the Sacred High Waters" and is the original name of the central mountain kingdom ofCacique Orocobix in the Caribbean island ofPuerto Rico . In Pre-Columbian times this tribal kingdom covered the present day Puerto Rico municipalities ofOrocovis ,Morovis ,Barranquitas ,Corozal andAibonito . In the year 1968 the tribe officially reaffirmed and reclaimed its dominion and authority over its past Pre-Columbian tribal territory, as is noted under the preamble that is written within its 1970 tribalconstitution andtribal laws .In 1970 the Jatibonicu Taíno of Boriken had reaffirmed its

The Jatibonicu Taíno tribal government works in cooperation with various U.S Federal Government agencies and presently carries an un-official recognition status by way of the United States Federal Government agencies. Today the name Jatibonicu is recognized as the official tribal Government name of the Jatibonicu Taíno Tribal Nation of Boriken, a tribe of Puerto Rico.
