Previously, little-known in political circles and lacking governmental experience, Mohan entered the Supervisor's race by engaging in a
primary election for the Republican nomination. He was opposed by the Amherst Republican Committee's endorsed candidate, Dirk Rabenold, a member of the AmherstBoard of Education . Mohan's campaign took out full-page advertisements in theBuffalo News and local weekly newspapers. It also engaged in an aggressivelawn sign strategy. Mohan won the Republican primary and faced the incumbent Democratic supervisor as well as Rabenold (who remained the race as the candidate of the Conservative and Independence Parties ) in thegeneral election .During the campaign, Mohan promised a 15% cut in the tax rate, a more equitable property assessment process, and solutions for residents dealing with sinking homes and cracking foundations. Since his election, he has had often cool relations with the rest of the Town Board and many of the town's department heads and has been unable to accomplish what he promised to do during his election.
In June 2008, Mohan joined the Democratic party and runs for re-election in 2009.
