European Patent Register

European Patent Register

The European Patent Register, also known as Register of European Patents, [ EPC 1973 Article|127 ] is a public register (or registry) kept by the European Patent Office (EPO). It contains legal information relating to the published European patent applications and the European patents granted under the European Patent Convention (EPC).

The European Patent Office alone performs legally effective publication and registration of European patent applications or patents. They regularly issue warnings about the subterfuges of firms and individuals that invite applicants to register patents in unofficial registers or publications. [EPO web site, [http://www.epo.org/patents/law/legal-texts/InformationEPO/archiveinfo/29062006.html "Warning: Beware of approaches and requests for payment from firms purporting to register European patents"] , 29 June 2006 ] Such registration services are a well known scam in intellectual property.
