science fiction novel byGreg Egan .Plot summary
The novel explores an unusual connection between
molecular genetics and quantum computing, with criticm of some of the excesses ofpostmodernism andfeminism theory. However, most of the novel focuses on futuresouth-east Asia n politics (Egan criticizedIndonesia nimperialism and Australian treatment ofrefugee s), repressed childhoodguilt ,evolutionary biology and academic life. As often in Egan's books, there is some focus on sexuality: this time the lead character is merely gay (rather than some of the more exotic alternatives in other novels).External links
