James Campbell (Falkirk)

James Campbell (Falkirk)

James Campbell was born in 1874 in Falkirk and joined his father, John Campbell, in his coal sales business with his brother Colin. In 1920 Colin split from the business and with other brother Alexander set up a different firm. James kept the land used by the company but did not stay in business much longer.

On 8 September 1905 he married Mary Rae, daughter of Peter Rae and Jane Webster, at the Alexandra Hotel, Blythswood, Glasgow, and had two children by her. Unfortunately, Mary died only four years later, prompting Campbell to marry again. His second marriage was to Senga Bellingham. He died in 1955.

His children were Jane, who married Joseph Lockhart, and John, who married Jane Hogg. It has been suggested that John's son Bruce, born in 1941, as a Campbell of Craignish, may be in line to the Chieftainship of Clan Campbell of Craignish, though this has never been proved.
