- Sea-Doo
Sea-Doo is a brand name for
Bombardier Recreational Products ' popular line ofpersonal water craft (PWC). The name is derived from Bombardier's "Ski-Doo"snowmobile line.It is also used regionally as a
genericized trademark for any type of sit-down PWC. Use of the term is strongest inCanada in general and particularly inQuebec where BRP is based. They also have 50.3% market share in the US.History and use of Rotax engines
Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has been producing personal watercraft since 1988 and will be celebrating its 20th year in business in 2008. They did however invent the sport with the first sit down Sea Doo in 1968 and 1969. However due to the engine technology of the time they abandoned the product for almost 20 years. Sport Boats were introduced in 1994 and used the same Rotax 2-Stroke engines used in their jet-skis. In 2003, BRP began to use four-stroke Rotax engines which were all fuel injected, and in certain models, were supercharged and intercooled to increase performance. All SEADOO models have 4-stroke Rotax engines except for the one-person 3D-DI model which needs to use a 2-stroke engine in order to lessen weight. The most powerful option ever offered by these engines is Twin Rotax 4-Tec engines only in Sport Boats that combine two Convert|215|hp|kW|0|abbr=on supercharged intercooled engines used in the Speedster and 230 Challenger models rated at 430 combined horsepower. Their new RXP-X and RXT-X now have 255 horsepower the most in the industry with a 0-50 mph speed in less than 4.9 seconds.
Mercury Marine jet drives
In 2000-2004, the SEADOO Sport Boat line-up from 18 feet to 22 feet used jet drives made by Mercury instead of Rotax because the Mercury engines made 240 or Convert|250|hp|kW|0|abbr=on
RXP-powered PWCs and Sport Boats
When the RXP was introduced in 2004, it was the most powerful and fastest 4-stroke 2-Person PWC ever made-215 horsepower and capable of reaching approximately convert|70|mi/h|km/h|-1|abbr=on.When the RXT was introduced in 2005, it was the most powerful 3-seater on the water with the same engine as the RXP and was capable of reaching the same speeds.Fact|date=August 2008In 2007, all Sport Boats except the 150 Speedster and the 180 Challenger were offered with either two Convert|155|hp|kW|0|abbr=on engines to make Convert|310|hp|kW|0|abbr=on or to supercharge and intercool the same engines to make each one Convert|215|hp|kW|0|abbr=on for a combined total of Convert|430|hp|kW|0|abbr=on.For 2008, the RXT and RXP models will be offered with an "X" package that can increase the power of the engines to an astounding Convert|255|hp|kW|0|abbr=on to compete with the Convert|250|hp|kW|0|abbr=on Kawasaki Ultra 250x.
