- James Macrae Aitken
James Macrae Aitken (b.
27 October 1908 ,Calderbank ,Lanarkshire ,Scotland - d.3 December 1983) was a Scottish chess player. He was awarded a PhD on the topic of theLisbon Inquisition . Fact|date=September 2007He was Scottish champion in 1935, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1961 and 1965, the latter jointly with
PM Jamieson . He was also London Champion in 1950.During
World War II , Aitken worked inHut 6 atBletchley Park on solving German Enigma machines (Taunt, 2001, pp. 81-82). He died inCheltenham in 1983, aged 75.References
