- Korgen
Korgen is a former municipality in
Nordland county,Norway .Korgen was separated from
Hemnes July 1, 1918. It was again merged with Hemnes January 1, 1964.The village of Korgen is today the administrative centre of Hemnes municipality. It's the largest village in Hemnes with its 1555 inhabitants (per 1.jan 2005). Korgen is connected by road to
Mo i Rana ,Mosjøen ogBleikvassli (Riksvei 806).Geography
Korgen is situated inland and is surrounded by mountains. Southwest towards Mosjøen lies Korgfjellet (Vesterfjellet), to the east is Klubben, and to the north towards Mo i Rana is Kangsen.
Korgfjellet
Many Norwegians have heard about Korgen because of the notorious
Korgfjellet which quite a few times has divided the country in half with poor road conditions and traffic accidents during the winter. This is now avoided after the finishing of theKorgfjelltunnel in 2005.
