"For the Scottish MSP and Councillor see Bill Kidd"

William Winston "Billy" Kidd (born April 13, 1943 in Burlington, Vermont) is a former American alpine ski racer originally from Stowe, Vermont, now living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

A silver medalist in the slalom at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Kidd was the first American man (along with Jimmy Heuga, who took bronze in the same race) to earn an Olympic medal in alpine skiing. Both Kidd and Heuga were just 20 years old at the time.

Kidd won the gold medal in the Combined and the bronze in the slalom at the 1970 World Championships in Val Gardena, Italy.

He retired from the World Cup circuit after the 1970 World Championships in February, and won the pro world championship the same year, the only racer to hold both titles at once. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1969 with a degree in economics. [http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761589704/Billy_Kidd.html]
