state park in Montgomery County,Kansas ,United States , located west of Independence.The convert|857|acre|km2|1 park is settled adjacent to the, 4,500- acre,
Elk City Reservoir and the, 12,000-acre (49 km²),Elk City Wildlife Area . The Reservoir offers good/excellent fishing opportunities forchannel catfish ,white bass ,crappie ,flathead catfish,largemouth bass andsaugeye . The Wildlife Area offers a chance to viewwhite-tailed deer ,wild turkey ,bobwhite quail ,cottontail ,gray squirrel ,prairie chicken ,beaver ,raccoon ,bobcat ,coyote ,gray fox ,opossum ,mink andmuskrat .A nationally recognized trails system invites visitors to take in a rich variety of
flora andfauna . TheGreen Thumb Nature Trail is a one-mile loop which rewardshikers with a panoramic vista of the lake.Table Mound Hiking Trail andPost Oak Nature Trail are also park attractions.
