Tarik Benhabiles (born
February 5 ,1965 inAlgiers, Algeria ) is a formertennis player fromFrance , who didn't win a single title during his professional career. The right-hander reached his highest singles ATP-ranking onJune 8 ,1987 , when he became the number 22 of the world.He started his professional tennis career in 1981 (
Roland-Garros Junior champion in 1981), and ended it in 1992. He never won a major title, except for the french national tournament in 1986, and lost toVitas Gerulaitis at the Trevison Open final in 1984. He was a member of the french Davis Team national team, but played only one men's double match in 1987 against South Korea.Tarik ended his professional player career in 1992, at the age of 27. As a pro, his record was 69-107. He then started a coaching career. He first coached
Nicolas Escude until 1997, then relocated to the United States to coach a youngAndy Roddick . He built a strong relationship with Roddick, and took him to the ATP Top 10 in June 2003.
