Rod Jones (born
5 February 1953 ) studied English and History at theUniversity of Melbourne . He supports himself on writers' grants and his work as a teacher at schools and universities in Australia and overseas. He was writer in residence atLa Trobe University for four years, and has also been theAustralia Council 's writer in residence in Paris.Jones told journalist, Jane Sullivan, that he likes short novels. His favourite novels include "

Rod Jones’ first novel, "Julia Paradise", in 1988 won the Fiction Award in the
South Australian Premier's Awards , and was runner-up for theFemina Etranger Prize in Paris. It has been translated into ten languages and published throughout the world.
