William G. Pierce

William G. Pierce (June 19, 1952) is an engineer, small business owner, and former candidate for the Ohio United States Senate election, 2006.

Biography

William ("Bill") G. Pierce was born in Sharon, Massachusetts on June 19, 1952. At eight years of age, Pierce’s father moved him and his family to Dunedin, Florida. Upon his graduation from high school, Pierce and his family moved to Ohio where he followed in his father’s footsteps with an interest in engineering.

In 1970, Pierce enrolled in the College of Engineering at the University of Cincinnati and in the Air Force ROTC. He married in 1972 and later graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. After earning his B.S. degree, Pierce attended summer camp with the Air Force and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Pierce founded his own firm (Pierce Processing, Inc.), which became an established multi-million-dollar firm headquartered in Cincinnati with branch offices in Louisville and Detroit. The company employs more than fifty professionals. Pierce received three United States patents for research and development during the 1980s.

Candidacy

On November 3, 2005, William Pierce announced his intention to challenge Mike DeWine for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate in the May 2006 primary election. Pierce's campaign was focused on the experiences and challenges he had faced as a small business owner.

Pierce is Christian and socially conservative. Former Air Force Lt. Col. John Mitchel, who received nearly 200,000 GOP votes in 2004 against Senator George Voinovich, and dropped out of the GOP primary on March 13, 2006 said, "Now is the time to get behind one of the remaining challengers, and in my opinion, the best qualified is Bill Pierce, however, I would caution everyone to learn more about both challengers before they cast their vote on May 2."
