For 2005 and early 2006, this car was known as the Pontiac Pursuit in the Canadian market, and G5 Pursuit during mid-2006. It was also known as the Pontiac G4 in Mexico from 2005-2006. It was released to the U.S. market in August 2006 as a 2007 model. The G5 and Cobalt are built upon theGM Delta platform and is available as a sedan inCanada andMexico . MacPherson strut s, while the semi-independent rear suspension uses torsion bars. The wheelbase is 103.3 in (262.4 cm), longer than its competitors, and the width is 68.4 in (173.8 cm). In the US, the G5 is available in the base model
coupe (with a Convert|148|hp|kW|0|abbr=on, 2.2 L I4 engine) and the sporty GT (173 hp,DOHC 2.4 L four-cylinder engine) trim levels. Standard equipment for the coupe trim level includes a 5-speedmanual transmission , AM/FM stereo system withMP3 decoder, auxiliary jack for external music devices (such as aniPod ), and a spoiler. The first 500 G5's built for the US market included a free upgrade to XM Radio, and free song downloads from Rhapsody. The GT includes the same equipment. Available options for both trim levels include a sunroof and side impactairbag s. The coupe lists for US$14,995 while the GT is slightly more expensive, starting at US$17,795. automatic transmission . The GT receives the 2.4 L engine, delivering 171 hp (128 kW) at 6000 rpm and 163 ft·lbf (221 N·m) oftorque at 5000 rpm, and can be equipped with automatic or 5 speed manual transmission.Brake s are discs at front and drums at the rear.
