Caerlanrig - also spelled 'Carlenrig' - (Gaelic: "Cathair Lannraig") is a hamlet in the
parish of Cavers, Borders,Scotland , lying on theRiver Teviot , 6 miles (10 km) north east of that river's source, and 10 miles (16km) south west ofHawick .Etymology
The name is composed of the prefix 'caer', which derives either from the Gaelic "cathair" or from the extinct

It is best known for being the site where Johnny Armstrong of Gilnockie, second chief of
