Seycove Secondary School is a Canadian high school in the Deep Cove neighbourhood of the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia. New to the school in 2007 is principal Mr. Jeff McGowan. Its former principal (Dick Burns) is currently at Balmoral Junior Secondary School in North Vancouver. Seycove Secondary is located just below Dollarton Highway. It contains students in grades 8 through 12.

Athletics

Seycove is well known for the school's ski and snowboard team, which has won the district championship for two consecutive years. The school's Rugby team is not as well known, but they have had two consecutive championship seasons as well, winning the Tier Two "New Zealand Shield" in the 2006 season and successfully defending it in 2007. The Senior Boys Soccer team won Provincials on November 22nd, 2006. The gymnastics team is also well-recognized. The rowing team has also come first place in the district for many years in a row.

Music

Seycove has a highly commendable music program. Mostly its choirs have gained a strong reputation throughout the years. Aside from the typical concert and jazz choirs, Seycove also has an internationally acclaimed chamber choir and an all-women's choir. The school also displays a musical production outside of its regular music program every 2 years involving several random broadway musical selections.

Seycove's Chamber Choir is an elite auditioned student choral group; they have received numerous accolades in the past, and received the honour of winning "Best Youth Choir of the World" in the international Kathaumixw festival in Powell River, in July of 2006. In May 2007, the chamber choir travelled to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphony.

Theatre

Seycove Secondary has a renowned theatre program and its own distinctive theatre, affectionately called "The Vortex." There are two special events that occur in alternating years: the One Act Play Festival, which consists of one-act plays written and directed by students in the Drama program, and the Spring Play, which is put on by students in the Senior Acting program. Some notable past productions include Tennessee Williams's "The Glass Menagerie"; Woody Allen's "Play It Again, Sam"; and, most recently, William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night". For the 2009 season, the Senior Acting Troupe will be putting on a production of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible".

Visual Arts

Some visual arts courses offered are Art Foundations, Art Portfolio, Media Arts (Photography), Film and Television, and Desktop Publishing.

Robotics,Engineering and Technology

Seycove is also is home to one of the busiest technology departments in the District. Students at this school compete yearly in the Skills Canada Robotics challenge as well as alternative energy challenges and supemileage races. Students design and build a wide variety of projects such as off road vehicles, solar powered vehicles and hovercrafts. The engineering program has a number of its past students that have gone on in all levels of engineering and engieering related fields. Past students have gone on to engineering from this program have gone on to schools such as UBC, SFU, UVIC, Waterloo, McGill, BCIT and the Capilano College Engineering transfer program. Seycove also boasts a computer programming course, Woodwork, Construction as well as Drafting and Design.

Other Elective Choices

Seycove also has a wide variety of elective courses such as Outdoor education, Foods, Textiles, Psychology, Law, First Nations Studies and a host of many other great elective courses.
