Terence ("Terry") Arthur Walsh (born
November 20 ,1953 inKalgoorlie, Western Australia ) is a formerfield hockey striker fromAustralia , who competed in twoOlympic Games for his native country. Highlights were winning the silver medal at the1976 Summer Olympics inMontréal , and the gold medal at theHockey World Cup inLondon ,1986 . In total he competed in 165 international matches for Australia.After his active career he became a hockey coach, first with
Malaysia . Walsh was appointed Head Coach of The Kookaburras and theAustralian Institute of Sport Men's Hockey Unit after the1996 Summer Olympics . He led the Men's National Team to the bronze medal at the2000 Summer Olympics , but was sacked afterwards, and replaced by former team mateBarry Dancer .In December
2003 he was appointed head coach ofThe Netherlands , their first foreign coach ever, afterJoost Bellaart had to step down after an internal crisis within the Holland squad. Walsh led the Dutch to the silver medal inAthens , where his former team Australia won the final after a golden goal by strikerJamie Dwyer . After the Champions Trophy inLahore , where The Netherlands finished second once again, he stepped down and became the Technical Director forUSA Field Hockey .External links
