Things of Science

Things of Science

Things of Science was an educational program launched by the Science Service in November of 1940. The program consisted of a series of kits available by subscription and sent by mail monthly. The program continued until 1989.

Each month you'd receive a little blue box about the size of a videocasette. Inside the box there'd be a little yellow booklet explaining the topic for that month. Some kits would teach about a specific topic, perhaps "COAL". Other kits would provide parts to build a small spectrograph or telescope or pinhole camera. The idea was to actually put a THING into your hands, to give you a concrete thing to work with, a Thing of Science.
