- Vinschgau Valley
The Vinschgau Valley ( _it. Val Venosta, _de. Vinschgau, _ll. Vnuost), or Venosta Valley, is the upper part of the
Adige ( _de. Etsch; _ll. Adesc) river valley, in the western part of theprovince of Bolzano-Bozen ,Italy .The valley runs in a west-east orientation, between the
Resia Pass andMerano ( _de. Meran; _ll. Meran). Due to a rather warm climate and a lack of rain (400mm per year), theapple orchards there are irrigated. According to the 2001 census, 97% of the population of the valley speaks German as a first language, and 3% Italian.Vinschgau (Venosta) Valley is also the name of a district ( _it. comprensorio, _de. Bezirksgemeinschaft), in which the 13 municipalities of the cooperate. These municipalities are:
