Japan .As of January 1 2008, the city has an estimated
population of 145,117 and the density of 2,880 persons per km². The total area is 50.45 km².The city was founded on
April 1 ,1950 .Kariya is twinned with
Mississauga, Ontario ,Canada .Kariya is about 30 kilometers by train from
Nagoya , Japan's fourth largest city, which endured heavy bombardment during World War II.There are companies related to
Toyota Motor Corporation , such asToyota Industries Corporation ,Aisin-Seiki andDenso Corporation . Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, "Toyodajidoshoki", was actually the original company, or "kaisha" of whichToyota Motor Corporation became a subsidiary firm. Because Toyoda Automatic Loom Works was so highly profitable a company, board members decided to reinvest much of the profits into the growing automobile manufacturing business. A notable educational institution based in Kariya is theAichi University of Education (AUE), a national university, and its affiliated high school. Both the AUE and AUE High School are located in the Hirosawa section of the Igaya neighbourhood.During World War II, large towers in Kariya, funded by Germany were used to communicate the orders for Japan to attack Pearl Harbor. However, these have since been demolished.
