Gifu Prefecture of centralJapan . It was founded on1 April 1963 by the merger of Naka, Sohara, Unuma, and Inaba. Kakamigahara covers a total area of Convert|87.77|km2|mi2|2|abbr=on. On1 March 2008 the city had an estimatedpopulation of 145,202 inhabitants, giving apopulation density of 1,654 persons per km².Although the city was officially named Kakamigahara, it is also called Kakamihara, Kagamihara, or Kagamigahara by tradition.
