May 1 ,2008 , the city has an estimatedpopulation of 92,947 and the density of 210 persons per km². The total area is 442.70 km².Kashiwazaki is host to many cultural events every year, including the Kaze no Jin festival in May, En Ma Ichi in June, DonGALA in July, and Gion, also in July.
The City is also home to the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa

On
July 16 ,2007 , a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit off the coast of Kashiwazaki, killing at least 8, and injuring more than 700, causing massive power outages, atsunami warning, and other disasters. The quake, the strongest to ever hit a nuclear power plant, forced the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant to shut down for 10 months as of May 2008.
