November 9 ,1944 ) is a former soccer player. Besides winning 5 national championships and twoUEFA Cup s with his club sideBorussia Mönchengladbach he won the 1974 World Cup and the1972 European Football Championship with Germany.Herbert Wimmer started his playing career with lowly Borussia Brand (a place close to the city of
Aachen ). Between 1966 and 1978 the played in 366 Bundesliga matches forBorussia Mönchengladbach and scored 52 goals. With the club he won five national championships (1970, 71, 75, 76, 78), theGerman Cup in 1973 and in 1975 theUEFA Cup .He started out as a forward, but in Mönchengladbach his role was primarily to cover defensively for the star of the team in this era, midfield playmaker
