Sanchore (formerly Satyapur) is a town in Jalore district of Rajasthan, India. It is the headquarters of the "tehsil" by the same name. Located on National Highway No 15, the town is situated 154 km from Jalore and 45 km from Raniwara.

History

The town and the surrounding villages were historically ruled by the Chauhan Rajputs. There are many Hindu and Jain temples in the town.There is a well known Jain temple in the town called Godiji Parshwanath .A cattle fair is held every year in April or May.

Economy

An oil exploration company in 2004 discovered oil in Barmer-Sanchore basin. The Narmada Canal, which begins in Gujarat, enters Rajasthan state near village Silu in Sachore tehsil.

Presently ,there are many Infrastructure Projects Running in Sanchore, handeling by Many MNC companies i.e Ramsarup Industries Limited Kolkatta, Larsen & Toubro Ahm, Reliance Energy, Carien energy, Jyoti Structure, A2Z Maint, Gurgoan,

Pathmeda village near Sanchore has Gopal Govardhan Gaushala , one of the largest Gaushalas in India .Spread over 200 acres the Gaushala takes care of more than 15,000 cattle population.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Sanchore had a population of 25,881. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sanchore has an average literacy rate of 48%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 62%, and female literacy is 32%. In Sanchore, 20% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Jainism in Sanchore

Many of the natives of Sanchore presently reside in Mumbai, but still everybody is well connected to Sanchore as all the social & religious functions take place in Sanchore. Many of the people in Sanchore are Jains (Sthanakwasi & Derawasi) with surnames like Mehta, Doshi, Bhansali, Bothra, Chandan, Bohara, Bokadia, Shah, Sanghvi, Kanungo, Munot, Burad. Most of the jain families have business in Stainless Steel Industry. The Sanchori Jain Oswal Patti is governing body for the social & cultural Activities of the Jains which not only consists Sanchore but also small hamlets around Sanchore like Hadecha, Jaab, Nenava etc. There are in all 9 Jain Temples in Sanchore & every Temple has its own significance & history till date and the Ninth Temple & Dadawadi was scheduled to open on 26th February which is fully dedicated by Shri. Simrathmalji Malookchandji Bothra.
