Rikuzentakata (陸前高田市; -shi) is a city located in Iwate, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 25,071 and the density of 107.96 persons per km². The total area is 232.23 km².

The city was founded on January 1, 1955.

Politics and government

Rikuzentakata is governed by mayor Nagato Nakasato, an independent supported by the Japanese Communist Party. The city assembly has 20 elected members.
