2005 , the villages of Atsuta from Atsuta District and Hamamasu from Hamamasu District merged into the city of Ishikari.As of March
2008 , the city has an estimatedpopulation of 61,367 and a density of 85 persons per km². The total area is 721.86 km².Ishikari's sister city is Campbell River,
