Jackie Greene was born in
Salinas, California , and picked up music at an early age, starting with the piano. At the age of 14, Greene began to play guitar in high school. In a short time, he was able to sit in withbar band s at the local brewery, and as he got older, he composed his own songs. He recorded in a makeshift garage studio, burning his own CDs and selling them everywhere he could. Using the money he saved, Greene was eventually able to record and release his first full-length release, "Rusty Nails", on his own.After graduating from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, California, Greene moved to
Sacramento and began performing regularly. Marty DeAnda, owner of local labelDIG Music , noticed Greene at an open-mic session in 2001 and immediately signed him as the label's first artist. Under DIG Music, Greene released his first album, "Gone Wanderin "', in late 2002, which won the California Music Award for the “Best Blues/Roots Album” in 2003 and remained on the national Americana charts for over a year. In 2004, Greene released his third album, "Sweet Somewhere Bound " and began receiving major radio play and recognition for singles like “Honey I Been Thinking About You.”Greene has toured nationally with the likes of
B.B. King ,Phil Lesh ,Huey Lewis ,Susan Tedeschi ,Taj Mahal , andBuddy Guy , and has played in many high profile festivals across the country, including the Rhythm & Roots Festival, All Good,Gathering of the Vibes , Mountain Jam, Doheny, theNewport Jazz Festival , theNewport Folk Festival ,South by Southwest (SXSW),Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival ,Winnipeg Folk Festival , Festival at Sandpoint,Bonnaroo , and more recently the first Rothbury Festival.In early 2005, Greene signed with a
major record label ,Verve Forecast . "Sweet Somewhere Bound" was reissued that same year. OnMarch 14 ,2006 , "American Myth " was released.On July 7th and 8th, 2007 Jackie Greene became a member of
Phil Lesh and Friends , theGrateful Dead bassist's ensemble dedicated to the interpretation of the Dead's extensive song book. This edition of the band also includes John Molo, Larry Campbell and Steve Molitz.On April 1st 2008 Jackie Greene released "Giving Up The Ghost" on 429 Records. Jackie Greene made his second visit to "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on June 3rd, 2008 when he performed "Like A Ball And Chain" from "Giving Up The Ghost".
