Benjamin Kruskal

Benjamin A. Kruskal is an American physician. He specializes in pediatrics and in infectious diseases, with a particular interest in infection control and quality improvement in health care. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1981. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, along with a concurrent PhD from the same institution, both in 1988. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Boston City Hospital (now known as Boston Medical Center).

Kruskal's first faculty position was at Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. In 1996, he moved to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he still maintains an affiliation in pediatric infectious diseases. He has been a pediatrician at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (formerly Harvard Community Health Plan), a very large multi-site multi-specialty medical group in the greater Boston area, since 1997. In 2000, he became, in addition, the director of Infection Control and Travel Medicine at Harvard Vanguard.

Kruskal is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the Infectious Disease Society of America, the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society.

Kruskal's research interests originated in cell biology, especially the cell biology of endocytosis and phagocytosis, as well as calcium signalling within cells. More recently, his interests have included Quality improvement within the healthcare setting, and patient safety, automated surveillance and reporting of infectious diseases,Vaccine adverse effects and Infection control in the ambulatory care setting.
