Benjamin A. Kruskal is an American
physician . He specializes inpediatrics and ininfectious diseases , with a particular interest ininfection control andquality improvement in health care. He did his undergraduate studies at theUniversity of Pennsylvania , graduating in 1981. He received his medical degree fromNew York University School of Medicine , along with a concurrent PhD from the same institution, both in 1988. He completed a residency inpediatrics and a fellowship in pediatricinfectious diseases atBoston City Hospital (now known asBoston Medical Center ).Kruskal's first faculty position was at
Children's Hospital Boston andHarvard Medical School . In 1996, he moved toMassachusetts General Hospital , where he still maintains an affiliation in pediatricinfectious diseases . He has been a pediatrician atHarvard Vanguard Medical Associates (formerlyHarvard Community Health Plan ), a very large multi-site multi-specialty medical group in the greater Boston area, since 1997. In 2000, he became, in addition, the director of Infection Control and Travel Medicine at Harvard Vanguard.Kruskal is a Fellow of the
American Academy of Pediatrics , as well as a member of theSociety for Healthcare Epidemiology of America , theInfectious Disease Society of America , thePediatric Infectious Disease Society .Kruskal's research interests originated in
cell biology , especially the cell biology ofendocytosis andphagocytosis , as well as calcium signalling within cells. More recently, his interests have includedQuality improvement within the healthcare setting, andpatient safety , automated surveillance and reporting ofinfectious diseases ,Vaccine adverse effects andInfection control in theambulatory care setting.
