Anton Šťastný (born
August 5 ,1959 inBratislava ,Czechoslovakia , nowSlovakia ) is a former Slovak professionalice hockey left wing who played nine seasons with theQuebec Nordiques of theNational Hockey League from 1980 until 1989. He was the first player born and trained in Slovakia to be drafted by an NHL team. He is the brother of Vladimír Šťastný),Marian Stastny , andPeter Stastny , and the uncle ofYan Stastny andPaul Stastny (both Peter's sons), all of whom are (or have been) involved in ice hockey at the elite level. Anton's own son Thomas Stastny played inSwitzerland , last forChaux-de-Fonds in 2004.Stastny was originally drafted 198th overall by the
Philadelphia Flyers in the1978 NHL Amateur Draft , but he re-entered and was drafted 83rd overall by the Nordiques in the1979 NHL Entry Draft . Stastny played 650 career NHL games, scoring 252 goals and 384 assists for 636 point and scored at least 25 goals for eight consecutive seasons.He played his first nine seasons alongside his brother Peter, four of which were also played alongside Marian. They were the first brother trio on one team since the Bentley brothers (Doug, Max and Reg) played together for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1943. He ranks eighth overall in NHL points by a Slovakian player.
