Alv Jakob Fostervoll (born
20 January 1932 inKristiansund ) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party.He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from
Møre og Romsdal in 1969, and was re-elected on one occasion. He was appointed Minister of Defence in 1971–1972 during thefirst cabinet Bratteli and in 1973–1976 during thesecond cabinet Bratteli . While he was appointed to the cabinet, his place in the Norwegian Parliament was taken byOskar Edøy . He wrote three books on defence policy.On the local level he held various position in
Kristiansund municipality council from 1959 to 1969, serving as deputy mayor in the period 1967–1969. From 1967 to 1969 he was also a member of Møre og Romsdal county council. He chaired the regional party chapter from 1965 to 1969. His career in politics ended with the post of County Governor of Møre og Romsdal, which he held from 1977 to 2002.Outside of politics he worked as a military officer and, later, school teacher. He was the president of
Norges Forsvarsforening from 1981 to 1989 and of theNorwegian Atlantic Committee from 1995 to 2007.References
