Londonderry (Northern Ireland Parliament constituencies)

Londonderry is one of the six counties comprising Northern Ireland.

County Londonderry was represented in the Northern Ireland House of Commons 1921-1973. This article deals with the Londonderry Borough and County constituencies. See also the List of Northern Ireland Parliament constituencies 1921-1973.

Boundaries

1921-1929: County Londonderry was a five member constituency, electing MPs using the single transferable vote method of proportional representation. There was a single member UK Parliament constituency of Londonderry, 1922-1950, with the same boundaries.

1929-1973: The area was divided into five single member divisions, electing MPs using the first past the post electoral system. From north to south the divisions were:-
* North (county constituency).
* Foyle (borough constituency).
* City of Londonderry (borough constituency).
* Mid (county constituency).
* South (county constituency).

Notes

*Several individuals were elected for different constituencies at different times, including Dehra Chichester, who became Dehra Parker on her marriage on 4 June 1928.

*Eoin MacNeill used his election in 1921 to attend the Second Dáil; he had a dual mandate, having also been elected to represent the National University of Ireland in the elections for the House of Commons of Southern Ireland.
