Gulistan-e-Jauhar

Gulistan-e-Jauhar or Gulistan-e-Johar (Urdu: گلستانِ جوهر) is one of the major neighbourhoods of Gulshan Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan and comes under the jurisdiction of UC10 Pehlwan Goth and Faisal Cantonment. It is surrounded by Gulshan-e-Iqbal on the North and West ends, Faisal Cantonment on the South, Malir Cantonment on the East and Jinnah International Airport on the South-East.

There are several ethnic groups in Gulshan Town including Urdu speakers, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochs, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis. Over 99% of the population is Muslim. The post code for Gulistan-e-Jauhar is 75290. The population of Gulshan Town is estimated to be 625,000.

Places of worship

Since the area is predominantly Muslim, there are a large number of mosques around the area to serve the purpose. The major Eid gah is Jamia Darul Khair.The best areas of Gulistan-e-jauhar are block 10,9,11,12,13,14,15 and VIP blocks.There is a huge amount of development work going on in Gulistan-e-jauhar right now and all the central roads are again renewed.In Apartments there is a new kind of Apartments introduced in Gulistan-e-Jauhar by the name of Afnan Duplexes. Afnan Duplexes have been introduced in 2005 but Naveed Cottages which also includes Duplexes was developed in 1992.

Transportation

Gulistan-e-Jauhar has a good transportation connection to the rest of the city. Buses run at regular intervals to most parts of the city, including Saddar, Tower, Clifton, Defence, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Civic Center etc. All such busses go through Phelwan Goth and Block 9 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also adjacent to Jinnah International Airport, one of the major airports in South Asia, handling around 6 million passengers every year.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also connected via the defunct. Karachi Circular Train. Although the train is out of service, the physical infrastructure stays and can be used for any similar future project.

Famous People

A lot of famous people live in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. It includes the likes of TV Anchors and Actors working on GEO television and other channels . Some future and promising Music bands are also living in Gulistan-e-Jauhar like new upcoming Band called Sentinels whose lead Singer Cobby aka Atif also lives in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.Umair Shahid a famous student of IoBM, who had been actively involved in number of extra curricular activities around the city is also a resident of this area. Adnan, the President of a very well known and notorious gang known as 'The Fursaat Committee' is also a resident of jauhar.

Utilities

A post office is located in Block-14, whereas, the PTCL Gulistan-e-Jauhar exchange is located in Block-13 (behind Rado shopping area). Most of the banks operating in Pakistan have their branches located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar including Standard Chartered Bank, Habib Metropolitan Bank, CitiBank, MCB Bank, Meezan Bank, Soneri Bank etc. The most famous hospital in the vicinity is Dar-ul-sehat Hospital located in Block-15, whereas, other smaller medical facilities are also available.
