Jurby ( _gv. Jourbee) is a
parish of theIsle of Man and has, according to the 2006 census 659 (2001 census 677), residents.It is largely an agricultural district on the north-north-western coast of the island but also has an industrial park on the old Jurby Airfield. It is home to the Isle of Man's new prison, which opened in Summer 2008.
The parish is one of three in the sheading of Michael. The other two are

Jurby Airfield – exists in Jurby and was originally used as aRoyal Air Force training base inWorld War II . Part is used as an industrial estate and also housesJurby Junk , a well known second hand shop. The old runways and taxiways now form the Jurby motorcycle race track.2009 will see the opening of a long needed Manx Transport Museum, which will be housed in an old hanger, although a second hanger might be available in the future.
Jurby is also the site of the new Isle of Man prison (capacity: 138 cells), which began receiving inmates in August 2008. Apart from men, the prison will also be taking juveniles and women. Extensive facilities appropriate for a modern prison are available on site, including sports and education facilities as well as a working medical facility.
