It lies north ofBuraydah , the capital of the province and also north ofRiyadh , the national capital.It is the third largest city in Al Qassim Province by population, with an estimated population of 126,000 (2007 census). It is also thought to be the largest city in Al Qassim Province by area. It has an area of about 60 km².Rass means in
Arabic "an old well", and it was mentioned in a poem of Hassan Bin Thabit, the poet who was a companion (Sahaba ) of the prophetMuhammad . The city is governed by Khalid Al Assaf, who was appointed in 2005.The city has 19 official sub-governorates, and is followed by around two hundred villages, and Bedouin settlements, mainly in its southern and western sides.

Rass is located in
Al Qassim Province , centralSaudi Arabia . It is located within almost 400 km north ofRiyadh , 75 km north ofUnaizah , and about 105 km north ofBuraydah , the regional capital. the city lies to the south of Al Khabra, to the west of Badaya'a, to the east of Qasr Bin Okayel, and to the north of Dakhna.Geography
Rass has a typical Nejdi terrain, with
sand dunes surrounding the town's sides, except for the western and southern sides, which are occupied with Bedouin settlements. TheWadi Al Rumma (Rumma Valley) crosses the city from its southern side to its north-eastern side. There are several numbers of middle-high plateaus, and low-high mountains surrounding the town, mainly in the southern side, which are called by locals "Jebel".Climate
