Brett Stephens (born 20 February 1961) is a former
Australian rules football er in theVFL/AFL and currently a fitness trainer.Football career
Stephens was a
key position player originally from Croydon, and had stints at places includingEssendon andNorth Hobart and Sydney, before recruited fromEast Perth Football Club to the VFL'sFitzroy Football Club .Brett came through the ranks of Essendon at a time when the club was developing many players who later played a high number games and in premiership teams under Sheedy. Brett was a key position player at Essendon and the captaincy of the Under 19 team. Supporters of the club do acknowledge Brett's contribution to the club. That, if not for the number players coming through at that time, he would and should have gone on to enjoy the rewards due to him with Essendon.
Coach
David Parkin gave the mature-age recruit Stephens his debut in 1987 at the age of 26, and he rewarded him with consistent performances. In Fitzroy'sbest and fairest , he finished 2nd on two occasions. He retired in 1993 with 133 games and 54 goals under his belt in a solid career.Post-football career
After his retirement, Stephens became a sports coach in both the mental and physical training sectors.
In August 2005, Stephens announced his engagement to
Zimbabwe antennis playerCara Black .
