- Rideau View
Rideau View is a neighbourhood of
Ottawa located in the west end of the city. Its location in reference to the city is often disputed due to its close proximity to south end areas such asMooney’s Bay. The neighborhood is a low-income housing project designed and built by the Ottawa Housing corporation. It is bordered by Meadowlands Drive to the south, Claymore Street to the west and Dynes Road to the north. Debra Avenue is the main road that runs through the neighborhood, and some of the houses lie on Eiffel Avenue. It is also located close to the former city of Nepean. Some minor renovations have been made to the neighborhood. The area is home to a diverse population of Somali, Asian and Arab residents. Most people in the neighborhood live under the poverty line and this has led to some
crime in the area. A neighborhood known for not cooperating with those of the law, however, today the area is somewhat stable but is nowhere near the crime wave that hit the area in the late 80’s and early 90’s where the neighbourhood was notorious forgun violence anddrug trafficking . To prevent the neighborhood from turning into the rough areas inToronto that were plagued by crime, the police chief held a meeting with city officials to discuss options in decreasing crime in the neighbourhood. An increased police presence and undercover operations have helped to reduce crime in the area. A youth centre was opened by theOttawa Police Service to provide alternatives for the youth to help them stay away from resorting to a life of crime and violence. The Debra-Dynes family house was opened as a community outreach centre and is located in the heart of the neighbourhood.Corey from the fierhall has been a known petifile so they fired him from the opycLocated within Rideau View is the D BLOCK, which is a predominantly
