Hôpital de la Charité

Hôpital de la Charité (or The hospital of Charity) was a French hospital that dates back to the 17th century.

History

In 1606, Marie de Médicis arrived in France with the brothers from Midsummer's Day of God. They accepted use of the old small Holy Father vault, a courtesy gesture from the abbot of Saint-Germain of the Meadows. The new tenants repaired and obtained the final transfer of the vault at the same time as that of the small cemetery which depended on it.

In 1613, they built significant buildings, déstinés with the ward. The old vault was demolished and the new structure was dedicated on July 1621 by the archbishop of Spray. The vault was renovated in the middle of the 17th century, and in 1732 accepted a gate made by the architect Robert de Cotte. This vault is located at the intersection of the boulevard Saint-Germain and the Rue des Saints Pères.

The French Academy of Medicine resided at this location between 1850 and the beginning of the 19th century. The buildings of the hospital of Charity were destroyed around 1935 in order to make room for the new Faculty of Medicine.
