Strathfield Girls High School is a single-sex comprehensive high school located in the municipality of Strathfield in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It along with its brother school, Homebush Boys High School is one of the top ranked comprehensive high schools in the state, with over 1100 students and approximately 100 staff.

The school opened as Homebush Intermediate High School, founded in 1926, its motto being "Toujours en Avant", "Always advancing'. In 1953, it was established as Strathfield Girls High School, and became a languages high school (due to the rich cultural diversity and backgrounds of its students) in 1990. Over 85% of its students are from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Opportunities provided at the school include entering competitions in writing, public speaking, debating, art, drama, the sciences, mathematics, problem solving and mock trials. The school also conducts a school choir and orchestra, drama ensembles, the school musical, the Student Representative Council, community service programs and state knockout sporting competitions.

Curriculum

The school's faculties include English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, History, Music, Languages, Visual Arts, TAS (technology and applied studies) and PDHPE.

Year 7 and Year 8

Year 7 and 8 students study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, PD/Health/PE, Visual Arts, Music, Design and Technology and languages. In both Years 7 and 8, students also study Living Skills and participate in sport which is a mandatory component of the Year 7 – 10 curriculum.

Year 9 and Year 10

Year 9 allows students to start to elect subjects which are of particular interest to them. Students may choose three elective subjects for study during Years 9 and 10. The core subjects English, Mathematics, Science, Australian History and Geography, Citizenship and PD/Health/PE continue for all students.

BOS Requirements

Strathfield Girls High School follows the curriculum requirements of the Board of Studies. Years 7 to 10 are the compulsory years of secondary schooling leading to the School Certificate at the end of Year 10.

Year 11 and 12

Year 11 and 12 are the post compulsory years leading to the award of the Higher School Certificate at the end of Year 12. Students usually complete the Higher School Certificate over two years but flexible study patterns are available allowing students up to five years to complete the Higher School Certificate.
