Philip (Phil) Gawne is the
Member of the House of Keys forRushen , aconstituency in theIsle of Man . He is also the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and therefore a member of theCouncil of Ministers .Phil Gawne lives in the village of
Surby in the south of the Isle of Man. He is a graduate of the University of Liverpool.He is also a fluent speaker of Manx, the ancient
language of theIsle of Man . He has done much to save thisminority language in recent years; he once served as theManx Language Development Officer of theIsle of Man Government .He has spent time in jail on the
Isle of Man forarson . He and others set fire to houses in theIsle of Man inprotest of the massimmigration of the English to theIsle of Man , which in their view was destroying the Island'sculture .References
