year = 2005 Ellesmere Port and Neston is a local government district, borough and parliamentary constituency in Cheshire, England. It covers the southern part of the Wirral Peninsula, that part which is not included in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral.
The district has a population of about 81,800 (2006 estimate).[citeweb|url=http://www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/ssdataset.asp?vlnk=9666&More=Y|title=Ellesmere Port & Neston population estimate (mid 2006)|work=Office for National Statistics|accessdate=24 May|accessyear=2008] Its main town is Ellesmere Port, an industrial town on the River Mersey. The rest of the district is partly rural and partly residential including small towns such as Neston and Parkgate, both on the River Dee. It also includes a number of villages, such as Great Sutton and Willaston. "See also: "]It contains one parish: Ince, with the remaining area of the borough remaining unparished. This means that these unparished areas do not have local government at the level of the civil parish.
It was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the borough of Ellesmere Port and the urban district of Neston. The district was known simply as Ellesmere Port until the name was changed by the council effective 21 June 1976.
In 2007, plans were announced which proposed combining the borough with the Chester and Vale Royal districts, to form a new "West Cheshire" unitary authority.
